About Us- South Bay Retina

South Bay Retina was established by Dr. Keshav Narain to provide state of the art diagnostic and therapeutic technology in a competent and caring environment. Dr. Narain is a vitreo-retinal specialist and surgeon. His practice, South Bay Retina, specializes in the retina, or part of the eye that acts like the film in a camera where images are projected. Unlike a general ophthalmologist, most of Dr. Narain’s patients have been referred for evaluation and treatment of serious eye problems.

Dr. Narain uses a personal approach to make patients feel comfortable. He strives to ensure that each patient understands the diagnosis as well as the rational for treatments.

South Bay Retina was the first practice in San Jose to obtain the OCT III (Optical Coherence Tomography) III instrument. Since June 2001, this device has allowed us to examine, non-invasively, the architecture and thickness of the retinal tissue down to a resolution of 10 microns.

Dr. Narain was also pioneering in the use of intravitreal medicines for diabetic retinopathy and other conditions.

The office is set up to provide rapid display of retinal photos and OCT images on large flat panel monitors that facilitate viewing by patients.

South Bay Retina remains committed to education and provided over $10,000 last year to scholarship programs and events. SBR’s new office is designed to permit educational seminars for up to 30 physicians. These are an ongoing component of our commitment to education.
