Conditions We Treat

Services Provided by Our San Jose and Gilroy Retina Specialist, Dr. Narain

Woman in an Ophthalmologist office

At South Bay Retina we offer comprehensive care for retinal conditions using advanced therapeutic and diagnostic technology. Many of our patients are referred by their optometrists or general ophthalmologist to us for the specialized care that Dr. Narain provides to our patients. Our eye care services are provided by a dedicated team of retinal specialists who are proud to serve the community from our South Bay Retina locations in San Jose and Gilroy.

Diabetic Retinopathy

As part of your overall diabetic care, Dr. Narain, our leading retinal surgeon, advises our patients to receive regular ophthalmologic exams to screen for conditions such as cataracts and glaucoma. Proper diabetic care is important to maintain as this condition can adversely affect the blood vessels in the eye that are attached to your retina, causing diabetic retinopathy. Regular visits allow us to detect such conditions in the early stages and begin treatment to lessen vision loss.

Flashes and Floaters

The presence of eye floaters and flashes can sometimes be a sign of a more significant eye condition such as a retinal tear or detachment. Dr. Narain will conduct a comprehensive retinal exam to rule out those conditions; in most cases, flashes and floaters can be left untreated without any harm caused.

We offer comprehensive glaucoma care including:

  • Laser trabeculoplasty
  • Laser iridotomy
  • Aqueous shunt surgery

Macular Degeneration

We treat this condition with photodynamic therapy and thermal laser therapy in addition to Visudyne injection treatments.

Retinal Detachment

If your retina is detached it is important to seek care right away. We can provide four treatment options to effectively correct this condition:

  • Laser surgery
  • Cryotherapy
  • Scleral buckle
  • Pneumatic retinopexy.

Retinal Tears

Depending on the severity of your situation, the South Bay Retina team may choose one of the following four treatment methods to repair a torn retina: cryotherapy, laser surgery, scleral buckle, or pneumatic retinopexy.
